50SIXONE
Location: 144A King William Rd, Hyde Park SA 5061

50SIXONE is famous for its attractive but overpriced milkshakes, it is the new place that is recommended by everyone to visit. Not only do they supply desserts but also a selection of savoury food throughout the day. All of their desserts are classified as ‘insta-worthy’ especially their outstanding milkshakes. The dessert in the photos above are Unicorn Sundae (close up in right photo), Pretzels for President (in the background of right photo), Say It Ain’t Sundae (close up in left photo).
The milkshakes and desserts are an average proportion size. My Unicorn Sundae had around 3 scoops of different flavoured ice-cream, strawberries, it was topped with a rainbow sour strap, fairy floss, and a chocolate waffle cone dipped in white chocolate with sprinkles. The edge of the jar it was served in was also dipped in white chocolate and topped with sprinkles around the edges. To finish it off a candy bracelet was added around the sides as you can read the dessert is very intense.
The environment of the café itself is very unsettled. The staff there are definitely not the friendliest people. Personally, we didn’t have the best experience, as when we were waiting for a table to be free, we stood in line patiently. A waitress offered for us share a table with other customers. We kindly declined because another table was vacant as the previous customers had just finished up. The waitress grunted before rudely replying with an attitude “wait here”.
The lighting is very dim, it was pretty dark as the only lights that were there were the ones in the barista area. The music that was quietly played over the café was trendy and very enjoyable. Overall, the creative desserts look and taste amazing but the serving sizes are a bit too much making it a bit hard to finish.
🎃 HALLOWEEN REVIEW 🎃
So Sidney suggested that we should go to 50SIXONE to meet up for some dessert as we both hadn't seen each other for a whole month due to our seperate over seas holidays. It was probably one of the scariest experiences of my life.
All the staff members were dressed up in terrifying Halloween costumes that were actually quite detailed and it was clear that they put in the effort. There was one encounter that will most likely stick with me for a very long time. While Sidney and I were seated along the outside benches whilst browsing the menu, there was a girl dressed as Samara, the horrifying character from the horror movie, The Ring. She was wondering around the café, visiting each group of customers. As I turned my back on her she screamed right in my ear which scared me half to death. For the rest of the night Sidney and I were both quite on edge and paranoid; we could not eat our food in peace without some scary character scaring us. Our hearts raced every time there was a scary staff close to us, even if they were scaring other customers. We also got a chance to watch Samara chase customers down the street as they were leaving. The experience will obviously be different for everyone, people who are more brave and fond of horror type of experiences will enjoy dining at the café during Halloween season.
The cafe itself was Halloween themed and filled with decorations like fake spider webs and even a projection of horror movie trailers on the wall. There were props for specific staff members such as a coffin for the zombie and a creepy rocking chair for Samara.
The service was still about the same, but thought I would just share what goes down at 50SIXONE on the nights leading up to Halloween!
